Plumbing and HVAC Careers in Birmingham

A career at Hemphill Services means working the trades close to home, for a family-owned company that homeowners here have counted on for decades. We hire plumbers, HVAC technicians, and helpers who care about the work they do for their neighbors.

The job comes with steady work across Birmingham and hands-on training from techs who have your back. Most days bring a mix of service calls and installs for customers who call back. Whether you’re new to the field or years into it, there’s room to grow with a company built for the long haul.

What It’s Like to Work at Hemphill

The days are busy and hands-on. You spend them repairing what has broken in people’s homes and learning from techs who have done this for decades. That’s how Hemphill built a reputation that keeps the phone ringing.

Family-Owned & Family-Run Since 1954

The Hemphill name has been on the truck since 1954. Owners still know the crews by name, and the people who do good work here tend to build long careers.

Independent Trane-Certified HVAC Dealer

As an independent Trane-certified HVAC dealer, all our HVAC techs complete manufacturer training. You work on the latest Trane systems and sharpen skills that follow you through your whole career.

An Independent Local Shop

Your job here is to recommend what the customer actually needs. While big chains load their techs with sales quotas and upsell targets, Hemphill keeps you free to make the honest call.

“I needed a new gas range installed where we previously had an electric range. Our countertop contractor recommended another local plumber to install the range, but they didn’t show up and never called to reschedule. I’ve had good experience with Hemphill before and should’ve called them in the first place. Called at 9:30 and by 3:30 the range was installed which included running a new gas line to that corner of the house. Very happy with their work and the guys they sent out.”

“Had a wonderful experience! Everyone was professional, friendly, responsive and efficient. They worked really hard to figure out what was going on with our gas line and hooked up our new gas logs for us. We will definitely use Hemphill again. We tried to work with a chimney service in town and had a weeks long nightmare of a time getting them to call us back, schedule etc.. Not the case with these folks. Definitely recommend them!”

“Called Hemphill at 8:30 am on a Saturday in August because my air stopped working the night before. They were here and gone before lunch and my air is working great. I spoke with Andrew and he sent Michael out to get me back going. He did just that and did it at a very fair price. I was very pleased with their service and professionalism. I won’t hesitate to call back in the future.”
